The VP-8 is the industry’s first multi-mode audio processor with six built-in processing modes: FM, AM, FM-HD, AM-HD, MP3/AAC>48k, and MP3/AAC<48k. When operating in one of its six modes, special processing algorithms designed by Vorsis condition the audio appropriately for the selected transport medium. Audio is first preprocessed by a phase-linear four band AGC, then by an eight band limiter and final limiter or clipper. The eight band and final limiter operation is different in each of the operating modes due to special conditioning algorithms embedded within it that have been tailored for the particular needs of the operating mode. Changing modes is as simple as selecting a new mode from within the Windows-based Graphical User Interface; no reboot is required.

State of the Art Production
Vorsis audio processors are members of the ever-expanding Wheatstone product line and are built to the same exacting standards as all Wheatstone products. Every facet of product research and development, manufacturing, testing, and quality control is done in Wheatstone's large state of the art facility in New Bern, North Carolina to ensure that customers receive superior performing products of the highest possible quality.
State of the Art DSP Algorithms
Vorsis processors rely on proprietary DSP algorithms to create uncommonly clean and natural sound along with competitive "on-the-dial" loudness. Each Vorsis product comes equipped with its own Windows software based Graphical User Interface for intuitive operation. Carefully tuned factory presets ensure that the processors can be placed into use quickly and easily and in any size market with a minimum of effort.
Vorsis Bass Management System™
Given our understanding of advanced signal processing and the shortcomings of “bass clippers” in other audio processors, it was clear that a completely different approach for handling bass in an on-air audio processor was both required and warranted.
Our design team was intent on tackling the bass processing from a new perspective and the result of our work is the new Vorsis Bass Management System™(VBMS) algorithm. In simplistic terms it is a set of high-performance DSP algorithms designed to overcome the shortcomings of previous bass amplitude control topologies while also outperforming them.

The VP-8 is the industry’s first true multi-mode audio processor with six distinct and unique operating modes tailored for the specific requirements of FM, AM, MPEG3, HE-AAC, HDC, and wideband VoIP applications. All operating modes benefit from the Vorsis-designed four-band AGC/compressor, four-band fully Parametric Equalizer and preset selection. In each of the six modes the 8 band limiter and associated algorithms that follow the four band AGC are specifically designed for the operating mode that has been selected. Twenty five specially tuned Factory presets are included with each VP-8.
The VP-8 has analog line level and digital AES3 inputs, simultaneous analog and digital outputs. The VP-8 offers the security of only a few front panel controls; most setup and operating adjustments are made using an Ethernet connection and the included Windows based Graphical User Interface software.
The VP-8 FM mode includes the Vorsis Bass Management System (VBMS), sophisticated FM limiting/clipping algorithms and high quality Stereo Generator.
The VP-8 AM mode includes the Vorsis Bass Management System (VBMS), sophisticated AM limiting/clipping algorithms and selectable bandwidth low pass filters.
The VP-8 MPEG3, HE-AAC, HDC, and VoIP are specialized “Codec” modes specifically tuned to make best use of the characteristics of the Codec associated with the name of the mode. Final limiting is accomplished by a precision look-ahead limiter and low pass filters are available to further tailor the audio for the specific code and its bit rate.
